California's Energy Future is in Crisis
Now, more than ever, we're all thinking about energy.
And as the world's third largest energy consumer, California needs solutions now more than ever.
California is the 3rd largest energy consumer on the planet
and the 6th largest economy in the world.
We can't transition overnight. We still consume a lot of fossil fuels.
Experts predict fossil fuels will continue to provide almost 80% of our nation's energy
while renewables will just provide about 13%.
In fact, we consume more than we produce. By a LOT.
California consumes 1.8 million barrels of oil per day
and produces only 463,000 barrels of oil per day.
And guess what? Whatever we don’t produce here comes from other places.
Since there is no oil pipeline system for imports into California, we are an “energy island”…reliant on foreign oil shipped into our ports from unstable regions with poor environmental track records.
Some of the regions we are importing oil from are downright dangerous.
at today's prices, this translates to almost $2 billion dollars
Reliance on foreign oil rewards unstable regions and emboldens bad actors
and unlike California, this oil is some of the dirtiest on the planet.
The best way to supply our energy is to produce it locally.
It's better for
Human Rights
-
Energy independence creates greater global stability and autonomy.

-
Shutting down local production only benefits exporters with questionable environmental and human rights records like Iran, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

-
Locally produced oil and gas benefits the American economy, American workers and the global environment.
It's better for the Environment
-
California oil & gas producers and regulated by 25 key local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring unparalleled oversight.

-
Emerging and evolving carbon technology is helping to reduce the impacts of oil and gas usage.
It's better for the Economy
-
The oil and natural gas industry supports nearly 368,000 well-paying jobs in California and provides billions in state and local tax revenues that support local public safety and schools.

-
The average salary for oil and gas jobs in California is over $84,000 with many in the industry having a high school degree or less.
